Eyes Open is IDEO's innovative alternative to traditional guidebooks. These guides are all about getting a local's everyday experience, spotlighting neighborhood bars, boutiques, galleries and other hidden gems.
They came to us develop the companion website to Eyes Open. The idea for the site was that it be a forum for audience-participation: where people could their own fresh experiences and on-the-ground perspectives.
We created a space built around reading and thoughtful contribution. In order to get the most compelling responses, we proposed the site feature a monthly theme with IDEO hosts contributing stories and assignments to serve as a provocation to the community. We also recommended that all submissions be carefully curated, to maintain the high level of discourse people expect from IDEO.
Finally, we built the site on top of a content management system so IDEO curators can publish new stories whenever they choose.
We love the premise behind Eyes Open -- that looking at the everyday through fresh eyes can reveal new discoveries. Based on the response we've heard to the books and the site, others do as well.
The site is a forum for sharing fresh experiences that are happening now, in the moment—as well as an opportunity to learn from others.
It's been thirteen years since we started Odopod.
We've always wanted one thing: to do the best work of our lives. Along the way, we have been joined by an eclectic and exceptionally talented bunch of people who wanted the same thing. Together, we've built a company we love.
Two years ago, Odopod was acquired by Nurun.
The acquisition was a validation of everything we had built. It was also a catalyst for some big changes we wanted to make. We began to tackle bigger, thornier problems and to work all over the world. With Nurun, we've had a series of huge wins and have been producing our best work yet.
That's why we recently decided to retire the Odopod brand, formally adopt Nurun as our name, and take the reins of Nurun's US operations.
We're all still here—same team with the same appetite for great work, only now with different e-mail addresses and more frequent flyer miles. And we're growing, so send your talented friends our way.
